DR. YVONNE BLOOMFIELD (Ruby)M.B. B.S. D.T.P.H.Dr Bloomfield or 'Ruby', as she is known to her patients, has been practicing medicine at Nature Care Wholistic And Medical Centre for over ten years. Previously she has been a lecturer at Nature Care College, and several other educational institutions in symptomology and diagnosis. Dr Bloomfield says, "I am still a 'conventional' doctor and therefore patients will get my opinion from a traditional medical front but also have a broader base than the truly conventional GP". Ruby has a compassionate and empathic style of practice, with a special interest in women’s health, Travel Medicine and Intravenous Vitamin Therapy. Natural Hormone Replacement TherapyMany women are choosing natural hormone replacement therapy over conventional hormone replacement therapy due to new evidence linking traditional HRT with increased risk of cancer, particularly breast cancer, and increased incidence of stroke and heart disease. There are two types of natural hormone therapy, the first involves the use of Phytoestrogens, naturally occurring non-steroidal plant compounds. Researchers discovered the benefits of Phytoestrogens when sheep farmers noticed that sheep, which had been grazing on a type of red clover stopped producing lambs. It turned out that the clover contained a type of plant oestrogen, which worked as though the sheep had been put on the pill. . In Finland, Dr Herman Adlercriutz (sic) noticed that Finns had a far lower incidence of breast and bowel cancer than other Western women and figured something in their diet must be responsible. He studied a century of medical records and found that at times of high rye consumption there was a low incidence of cancer. Rye and Wheat contain Phytoestrogens. He also looked at Japan. Experts have long noted that Asian women on traditional diets rich in soy products such as tofu, seem to have very little trouble with menopause symptoms, and a low incidence of breast cancer. Soy products contain high levels of Phytoestrogens. The second type of Natural hormone therapy involves the use of bioidentical hormones, such as estradiol, estrone, estriol, progesterone, testerone. These are hormones that are chemically synthesized so as to be identical to the hormones naturally occurring in the human body. The difference between bio-identical hormones and synthetic hormones is that the natural hormones are derived from plant sources and then slightly altered in a pharmacy laboratory so that they have the same chemical structure to that of the hormones the ovaries produce. When undertaking Natural Hormone replacement therapy an initial appointment will assess current hormone levels in your blood through a blood test. Following this, a customised program using Bio-Identical hormones such as DHEA, testosterone and progesterone is prescribed and made up in the form of a troche (or medicated lozenge) which may come in many different flavours or a topical cream. A major benefit of this type of approach is that doses and treatment are individualised. Initially you are monitered for side effects or reactions. Regular testing to moniter hormone levels is necessary. Intravenous Vitamin TherapyIntravenous Vitamin Therapy is a great way to ensure maximum benefit from vitamin C by injecting it straight into our veins. Vitamin C is very useful in fighting acute and chronic infections, fatigue and boosting immune function. It is also very good for speeding up the healing process after illness, disease or surgery. The vitamin C will usually be administered in a saline or glucose solution and can either be injected with a straight push syringe or with an infusion from a drip over a longer period of time. Vitamin B Forte, B12, Folic acid and Iron injections are also available. Vitamin therapy may be available with Dr Bloomfield upon request. 1st Consultation 1hr $140 |
